BEGINNERS COURSE
Archery is a sport involving the use of weapons. As such it is a requirement of our insurance that everybody who shoots with us must have completed a beginners course before they are allowed to attend any of our sessions. Beginners courses are run at the beginning of every term in the first three or four weeks and, due to demand, you must have signed up as a member of the club to attend. If you are someone who has already done a beginners course, or who has shot for years outside of the UK, then please email us or turn up to a session and talk to our head coach. We may ask you for proof of this (an Archery GB card, beginner course certificate etc) or ask you to be monitored by one of our coaches. If we feel you are shooting unsafely, we will ask you to complete the beginners course with us.
The club provides the use of bows, arrows, and other equipment free of charge to all members
How to join as a fresher
Receive confirmation that you have been enrolled on one of our beginners courses.
Go to the archery club section on the York SU website and click "join".
Join via the "Archery Beginners Course and Semester 1 24/25" and pay the £30 membership fee. If you have not joined any other sports club yet you will also have to pay the Athletics Union fee of £30. This is the black tier AU fee and will allow you to join any other sports club. We do not charge extra for the beginners course or the use of any of our equipment, but you will be expected to complete the three beginners course sessions.
A few days before the first day of the course we will send you an email just to confirm some details and offer some advice about your first session.
If you wish to continue shooting in semester 2, you will need to purchase the semester 2 beginner membership from the York SU page which will cost you an additional £10.
You are now a member of the club. Upon completion of your three session beginners course you can attend any of the Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday Indoor sessions and any of the Outdoor sessions during the latter end of Semester 2.
